I would like to introduce you to the Bay Area Hunting Retriever Club. We are a club that is affiliated with the Hunting Retriever Club (HRC) of the United Kennel Club (UKC). Through the HRC, we are able to hold Licensed "Hunts" every spring and fall. Not only are we a retriever club, but we also are a family oriented group of "hunters" who enjoy getting together and forming new friends and hunting partners.

We sponsor events all year long, not just in the spring and fall. Just to mention a few: Obedience classes, special speakers, training days, and just plain old "get togethers".

Enclosed in this package, you’ll find material that goes into more detail about the Bay Area Hunting Retriever Club, the HRC, and the UKC. I want to extend a personal invitation to you and your family to join the fun and come see what we are all about. See you Soon!

Bay Area Hunting Retriever Club

The Bay Area Hunting Retriever Club (BAHRC) was formed in 1992 by people who were interested in training their dogs for actual hunting situations and not just field trial situations. Also, we were interested in exchanging ideas for different ways of training our dogs. We voted to become affiliated with the Hunting Retriever Club (HRC) of the United Kennel Club (UKC). The HRC is an organization conceived by hunters for hunters and is the most exciting thing ever to happen to the Bird and Duck Hunter and their retrievers.

The BAHRC holds licensed hunts every spring and fall. These licensed hunts consists of three different levels of difficulty:

STARTED- For young or inexperienced retrievers that might not have had the experience of a season of hunting or limited exposure to hunting and/or training.

SEASONED- For dogs that have had more training than started dogs and usually have had a couple of hunting seasons experience.

FINISHED- For dogs that have had more intensive training. They must accomplish the tasks required with style and accuracy. The Finished Hunting Retriever should be a pleasure to hunt with under any conditions.

Points are accumulated and awarded in all three categories. Dogs are not judged against other dogs but against a set standard of qualities that a hunting retriever should have.

The BAHRC publishes a newsletter updating members of upcoming events, special interest articles and reports on our licensed hunts.

BAHRC is proud to have several "Hunting Retriever Champions’ as ‘members’ of the club. Also we have many dogs with their "Hunting Retriever" title.

Since BAHRC was formed, we have developed our objectives and goals:

To educate handlers, hunters, owners and the general public through the encouragement and promotion of quality breeding, training and field testing of purebred retrievers in order to bring forth and perpetuate their natural hunting and retrieving abilities.

To exhaust all available means of protecting and advancing the interests of hunting retrievers through education and the encouragement of sportsman-like participation in field tests and retriever training.

To properly educate handlers, hunters, owners and the general public in the utilization and training of retrievers.

To conduct training field tests as well as sanctioned and licensed field tests for the hunting retriever.

To promote use of the hunting retriever as a conservation tool for the proper management of all of our wildlife resources.
